(WHERE
THERE IS NO DOCTOR)

Launch - Maputo, Mozambique
19 November 2009
Where There Is No Doctor has now been updated, translated and revised into
Portuguese by a team brought together by TALC – the culmination of 9
years’ work !
Onde Não Há Médico is intended for health workers in
Portuguese-speaking countries of Africa and is now available in Mozambique
or direct from TALC.
Our team comprised Mozambican and international health specialists in their
field who all worked under the leadership and overall coordination of Dr.
Julie Cliff, to update, revise and add new information to the manual. The
book contains the latest information on treatment and care for a wide range
of diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.
Illustrations for all the new chapters were prepared by a Mozambican artist
and Mozambican companies carried out the design, layout and printing.

The new Portuguese edition – Onde Não Há Médico
was launched in the Faculty of Medicine in Maputo, Mozambique on November
19th, 2009. A large number of people braved a tropical rainstorm to attend
the launch and buy copies of the new book, signed by the authors.
Many international donors generously gave funds to get this book written,
printed and distributed.
TALC has already supplied copies to the Ministry of Health in Mozambique and
aims to supply further copies to the Ministry of Health in Angola and other
Portuguese-speaking countries of Africa. (See below.)
Discussions are also ongoing between TALC and other Ministries in Mozambique
over further distribution of copies of the new book. The Ministry of Education
is interested in placing copies in each primary, secondary and teacher-training
institution in the country.

Copies are available now from TALC, please place your order here.
As the launch in Maputo was scheduled to coincide with a meeting of health
information officials from other Portuguese-speaking countries, TALC was able
to give sample copies to each country’s delegation to take back to their
respective Ministries of Health.
Once those Ministries of Health express an interest, we at TALC can begin
discussions regarding the practicalities of distributing copies of ONHM to
them for use by their own health workers.
