This manual aims to share required standards needed to create a service which is efficient and effective, and is written for anyone who is part of an ophthalmic operating theatre team. Guidelines include: sterilisation of instruments, maintenance of specialised equipment, the general running of the department, care of the patient, and the importance of infection control. Topics also include: setting up and running a theatre, in-service training, and record-keeping. The manual only refers to operations most commonly performed in developing countries. There is also a list of learning resource material and useful addresses of equipment suppliers required for surgical service delivery in developing countries.
