The quality of women's health care is often deficient in various ways and patients are frequently not treated with respect, nor are they guaranteed privacy and confidentiality. This guide is aimed at health service managers and health personnel who wish to improve the quality of maternal health services and make them more 'friendly' to women. It starts from the premise that both technical care and emotional care are essential and that women friendliness should include both technically sound services and a supportive and respectful human environment.
