Shows how in Uganda openness about HIV has been translated into action at the level of the individual, the family, the community and the nation. It describes how people and organisations got together to breach the wall of silence surrounding the HIV epidemic and so made it an “open secret” This has led to a decline in HIV prevalence and gives hope to other African countries struggling to come to grips with the challenges presented by the HIV epidemic.
