Prepared for the guidance of medical officers in small hospitals to help them provide safe and effective anaesthesia for their patients, but not intended for specialist anaesthetists. Both general and conduction anaesthesia are considered in detail and specimen techniques described, and the book covers the stage of assessing the patient before anaesthesia through to postoperative care. Special consideration is given to paediatric and obstetric anaesthesia and to medical conditions of importance to the anaesthetist. The anaesthetic techniques described were specifically chosen to be suitable for use in hospitals that are subject to constraints on personnel, equipment and drugs and where doctors have limited access to specialist services.
